This drug should be used for the shortest possible length of time. As listed above (see Causes and Risk Factors of Low T), many conditions, such as obesity or heart failure, relate to or potentially contribute to low T. There is no evidence that estrogens are effective for such symptoms and they should not be used to treat them, although other treatment may be needed. Certain medicines should not be used at or around the time of eating food or eating certain types of food since interactions may occur.

Side Effects

The degree of masculinization is related to the amount of drug given and the age of the fetus, and is most likely to occur in the female fetus when the drugs are given in the first trimester. If the patient becomes pregnant while taking these drugs, she should be apprised of the potential hazard to the fetus. Drug abuse is intentional non-therapeutic use of a drug, even once, for its rewarding psychological and physiological effects. Abuse and misuse of testosterone are seen in male and female adults and adolescents. Testosterone, often in combination with other anabolic androgenic steroids (AAS), and not obtained by prescription through a pharmacy, may be abused by athletes and bodybuilders. There have been reports of misuse by men taking higher doses of legally obtained testosterone than prescribed and continuing testosterone despite adverse events or against medical advice.

Perform periodic hemoglobin and hematocrit determinations in patients receiving high dosages of methyltestosterone. Possible increased risk for the development of prostatic hyperplasia and prostate cancer, particularly in geriatric patients. If any of these conditions occur before puberty, replacement therapy will be necessary during adolescence for the development of secondary sexual characteristics. Will require prolonged therapy to maintain these characteristics in pubertal males or postpubertal males who develop testosterone deficiency.

Methyltestosterone Dosage and Administration

Estrogens have important uses, but they have serious risks as well. You must decide, with your doctor, whether the risks are acceptable to you in view of the benefits of the treatment. If this should occur, there is a greater than usual chance that the developing child will be born with a birth defect, although the possibility remains fairly small. A female child may have an increased risk of developing cancer of the vagina or cervix later in life (in the teens or twenties). Every possible effort should be made to avoid exposure to estrogens during pregnancy. Estrogens are important in the development and maintenance of the female reproductive system and secondary sex characteristics.

May be used to stimulate puberty in carefully selected males with delayed puberty (family history of delayed puberty not secondary to a pathologic disorder). Brief treatment with conservative doses occasionally may be justified if patients do not respond to psychologic support. Adverse Reactions

If you have diabetes, this medication may make it harder to control your blood sugar levels. Monitor your blood sugar regularly as directed by your doctor. Tell your doctor the results and of any symptoms such as increased thirst/urination, weakness, or fainting.
